As a counselor and therapist, my job is to provide a safe environment with a foundation rooted in genuineness, acceptance, and empathy. I see myself as a mirror and an instrument to help you heal, grow, and move forward. I believe that mindfulness, meditation, and/or breath work are all essential elements of healing, and I encourage concurrent bodywork such as yoga, massage, somatics, and exercise to create a holistic approach to recovery. Regarding drug and alcohol issues, I will work with anyone who needs an assessment, is mandated by the courts or probation, currently struggling, sober, or in recovery. I support 12-Step Groups, SMART Recovery, and most of all, the spiritual principles of recovery. Two concepts that reflect my recovery philosophy are 1. The opposite of addiction is connection, and 2. HOW it works is Honesty, Openness, and Willingness.
Other than addiction, I am interested in family/relationship issues, codependency issues, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, employment issues, social environment problems, legal issues, harm reduction, self-worth issues, and trauma, including developmental, attachment disorders, neglect, domestic violence, and abuse (emotional, verbal, sexual, physical). Some theories and techniques I integrate into my practice are ACT, DBT, Reality Therapy, Trauma-Informed CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Tapping and Emotional Freedom Techniques.

Thanks for stopping by! Everyone has uncomfortable feelings at times. I work with clients to uncover and heal the parts of themselves that are stuck in distress and harmful ways of coping. These internal changes allow clients to be more fully themselves, living a rich, full and meaningful life. I utilize various forms of psychotherapy, adapting and tailoring to the particular needs of each client, including Internal Family Systems and other compassion and mindfulness-based approaches. I strive to be respectful, humble, curious, compassionate and flexible. I believe in the dignity, unique strengths, and worth of every individual.
I have studied and published on the relationship between our thoughts and feelings and our physical and mental health. Outside of my therapy practice I enjoy the beauty of the Driftless area including hiking, biking and canoeing, reading novels (my most recent favorite authors include Elizabeth Acevedo, Jasmine Guillory, Leah Johnson and Sandhya Menon), cooking using our CSA veggies and eating at restaurants with cuisine from around the world. Before becoming a psychologist I was fortunate to have many mini-careers, including teaching and/or traveling in Japan, Europe, Mexico and Canada, being a national park ranger in both Colorado and California and staffing the front desk of the Madison Urban League.
I believe in holding a raw, compassionate space where all parts of a person are welcome. My goal is to build a therapeutic relationship rooted in trust, curiosity, and genuine connection, because I believe healing begins when we feel truly seen and heard. My path to counseling began in cosmetology school, where I realized I was more passionate about meaningful conversations with clients than I was about styling hair. That experience led me into the mental health field, and I’ve never looked back! Over the years, in various parts of the country, I’ve worked with children, supported young adults in an inpatient mental health treatment center, and served college students through my university’s counseling center.
My areas of clinical interest include trauma, PTSD, treatment-resistant anxiety and depression, personality and mood disorders, relationship concerns, ID/DD, and major life transitions. I find I am particularly invested in working with women, young adults, teen moms, and individuals navigating perinatal mental health. I take an interpersonal, human-centered approach to therapy, drawing from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Interpersonal Process Therapy (IPT), and Psychodynamic Therapy, and often integrating tools from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). In our work together, my hope is to create a space where you feel safe to show up as you are, explore your story, and move toward healing at your own pace.

Experience: Working with individuals (children-middle aged adults) with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) and their families

Amelia Pearson - Intern
Counseling Intern
I am currently an intern working towards my Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling (LPC) at Viterbo University. I will graduate in May of 2025. I serve clients in both La Crosse and Monroe County, primarily working clients (age 13+) experiencing relationship strain, family dynamic problems, career confusion, adjustment disorders, mood disorders, and anxiety. We are all constantly making choices. From what we eat to who we marry, our choices create the life we live. There are as many options as there are choices, although a shift in perspective may be necessary to fully visualize this. Conceptualizing our truest desires is more than an idealistic pastime; it’s how we create the life we want! I help clients develop deeper self-awareness and discover what they truly desire in life. I empower clients to choose intentionally so they can live authentically.
